Britain is still one of only three Navies in the world that has the power to project globally (a blue water navy). The other two are America and France. How long this will last though is another question.

My point is that we are a mere shadow of what we once were on the seas.

While we may have less number of ships we did have back in the day. It's down to the weapons and the systems on those ships if it ever comes to it. Plus the addition of the air support.

I agree, technology over brute force any day, but why do we have to put up with only having a small amount of it?

Government want to make cuts and the armed forces are one of the areas they cut them. For example, we have 6 brand new Type 45 destroyers and the original order was for 12 to replace the original number of the actual destroyer(s) it was replacing.
