Jean Chretien/Queen Elizabeth II hoax phone call

Back in the 1990's the French speaking part of Canada held a referendum to decide whether to remain a part of Canada or become independent.... a referendum that was only just lost by the Quebec side at a ratio of something like 49.5% to 50.5% - anyway, at the time a radio DJ actually managed to get in touch with Queen Elizabeth II (who is also Queen of Canada) and posed as the Prime Minister of Canada who wanted Quebec to stay within Canada. He asked her to make a public speech stressing the unity of Canada and here's the prank call if anybody is interested: and it is 100% genuine, that is the Queen talking.

Probably the most successful prank call in history.

On 26 October Quebec DJ Pierre Brassard, posing as Chrétien, prank called Queen Elizabeth II to ask her to record a speech in support of Canadian unity ahead of the referendum. The queen agreed, requesting a copy of the proposed speech and telling the alleged prime minister "No problem, no, I can do that". A legal scholar stated that there was nothing improper about her willingness to make such a speech, as the queen believed she was acting on her prime minister's advice.
