In a statement they said: 'Young people really do have the power to help end poverty, tackle inequality and stop dangerous climate change.' It comes after the band racked up around 200,000 miles while travelling the world on their past two tours.

Carbon-burning: Last May, after performing at Radio 1's Big Weekend, Harry Styles and Niall Horan, both 21, boarded one plane, while Liam Payne, 21, Zayn Malik, 22, and Louis Tomlinson, 23, all boarded another

A spokesman for the band told MailOnline at the time: 'The band often take two planes and it just depends who gets on what plane.'

When approached by the Daily Mirror about whether One Direction's carbon-burning mode of transport was at odds with the campaign, Save the Children said: 'None of us are perfect.' The charity's Brendan Cox added: 'One Direction is the biggest band in the world and by mobilising the millions of young people in their fanbase, they'll shine a light on the most important issues of our time.' A spokesman for One Direction claimed the band's flights were 'part of a carbon offset programme'. He said the band used Starflight jets, a company which works alongside the charity Cool Earth to try and offset carbon emissions by protecting the rainforests.

Hahahahaha. 1D join the fellow global warming hypocrites of Al Gore, Prince Charles and Leonardo DiCaprio.

As much as they are hypocrites, they have a large fan-base.

There's going to be a lot of people who think 'oh, they support this so I need to' and start acting on it.

So while there are a few of them who are claiming to support causes and don't, they are bringing more people forward to do so.

Like they know anything about the world. They left education to become singers. This is just another way to sell themselves. Even if it was true, noble and from the heart, they're a lousy example of eco-warriors.
