Default Online pirates could face 10 years in jail

Online pirates could face jail terms of up to 10 years under plans being considered by the government.

Online copyright infringement currently carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment.

Ministers have launched a consultation on increasing it to 10 years - bringing it into line with copyright infringement of physical goods.

The government said tougher sentences would act as a "significant deterrent".

Every year there is something like this and it never really works.

However I'm glad that if the law does go through it's aimed at the distributor. Maybe people have finally realised blocking websites just doesn't work - people can find ways around or find a new website

They've had documentaries on TV and all sorts about pirates facing jail-time and such. I'm yet to see anything that has actually been effective being done about it.

But tbf when you've got people downloading songs from the likes of Kanye West - how can you expect people to pay for that crap?

Same with movies, some look good but are actually awful - and getting a refund is effort.
