    Texas challenges gay 'marriage' benefits

Houston officials argue that they are required to provide them under a US Supreme Court 2015 ruling that same-sex marriage is a legal right nationally.

The court had initially chosen not to hear the legal challenge.

However, under pressure from Republican state lawmakers, including Governor Greg Abbot, the all-Republican court reversed that decision in January and allowed the trial to begin.

In several amicus briefs (advisory opinions to the court), lawmakers asked the court to reject the "'ideology of the sexual revolution" that federal judges had passed into law.

Arguments began on Wednesday at the state courthouse in Austin.

The court is expected to issue a decision by the end of June.
woo well done to the lone star state x

hopefully Trump's Supreme Court pick can be on the bench by then and we can get it overturned. i actually think the Republicans should go one further if they do get it overturned and get a federal BAN on the whole thing across all states. good for the goose then...

#makemarriagegreatagain by only letting those most likely to divorce to get married? Divorce rates in Texas were at the lowest for 35 years in 2016 (which is after the ruling) but hey you're all about facts and not subjective interpretations right

Is it literally too much to ask of you to let people be themselves? They're not harming you.

Yeah! As soon as Trump's new justice is in, they'll start to turn things around from here.

The 'be themselves' argument is up there with the 'love is love' and 'its the current year!!!' lines.
