The Queen makes her debut at celebrity-haunt The Ivy for a friend's birthday

The 91 year old monarch spotted enjoying a rare night out in a London restaurant

She is used to dining at state banquets and no doubt has a team of personal chefs on hand - and so when Her Majesty does venture out for dinner it has to be for a truly special occasion. The Queen was pictured arriving at The Ivy restaurant on London's West Street on Thursday night in order to celebrate a friend's birthday.

The monarch looked elegant in a silver embellished ensemble and even donned a pair of heels for the celebratory occasion.

With the weather less than favourable Her Majesty chose to wrap up in a black paisley printed shawl for her arrival. And while the Queen was clearly in attendance to celebrate her friend's special day she may too have been tempted along by the other dinner guests. Arriving too this evening was Britain's Got Talent judge David Walliams who is part responsible for deciding what act will be put before the Queen at the Royal Variety Show later this year. The restaurant was closed to the public this evening but Walliams was one of the lucky few to secure an invitation.

Prince and Princess Michael of Kent were also in attendance this evening who will surely be glad to meet their old royal acquaintance. The Queen will tonight be treated to an array of dishes from executive Chef Gary Lee has created seasonal menus featuring Ivy classics alongside modern British dishes.

The A La Carte menu features classic British favourites such as Shepherds Pie at £19.50, calves liver, £23.50 and even fish and chips with mushy peas, £19. While traditional fayre is a plenty the Queen also has the option to go a little more adventurous with the menu also featuring an Asian section with dishes including Korean spiced bbq pork rib, £11 and popcorn shrimp, £14.95.

Tonight marks a very rare occasion for Her Majesty who is rarely seen dining out and was last spotted in a London restaurant in March 2016. The Ivy also makes a departure from the Queen's favourite - and supposedly only restaurant of choice Bellamy's in Mayfair. She was seen dining there last year alongside her daughter Princess Anne and Princess Alexandra and it is said to be the only restaurant she has ever dined in.

Posted because it is so rare to see her doing something 'normal' like even going for a meal. Never really see anything like it. Earlier in the day she presented the Scots Guards with new regimental colours at Buckingham Palace in the rain.
