Meet the Crooks: New EU Leadership appointed

EU Dummy Parliament was given chance to confirm appointment of a Franco-German stitch-up this week

    Germany's
Defense Minister Ursula von Leyen is appointed as President of the European Commission. Leyen is the second most unpopular politician in Germany and her department has been under investigation for corruption and dodgy defense contracts.

Spain's Josep Borrell, now appointed the EU's chief of Foreign Policy, was convicted of insider trading a few years ago.

France's Christine Lagarde is appointed as head of the European Central Bank (ECB). Lagarde was found guilty of criminal negligence in 2016 after a French court looked into an arbitration case.

If you gave me the power to appoint these positions - not that I or you have any power in doing so given it is basically decided by France and Germany behind closed doors - but if I could, I couldn't have picked a better selection than this lot. All incredibly unpopular failed politicians, and even with criminal convictions. What a great advertisement for the European Union, although nothing out of the ordinary.

Meanwhile the largest party in the European Parliament, which has nearly 50% of Britain's EU seats, turned its back on the EU.

    Thoughts?

I think the bigger scandal is that von der Leyen was "elected" without even being a candidate. The commission is always several steps away from democracy since it's basically a case of X chosen by Y chosen by Z chosen by voters etc but this time even the European Parliament didn't get a say in it and the people given roles at the top weren't even candidates
