    Default File Server build thread.

Hi so I am just getting stuff together; cases, parts and such. I was going to integrate it all into my pc but a file server seems better.

So far the things I am definitely getting (wont be changed) are these:
I am looking to buy this case, as it seems to be pretty much everything I want:
For the mobo and such, I am looking at an Asus p5q series board, I use one and they are pretty much rock solid.

The ram I'm looking at Corsair, I use them and they are pretty much rock solid.

If anyone wants to help n stuff feel free I am gonna go browse ebuyer find some good components maybe bump this thread or edit this post depending on time.

why don't you just buy a server that jason is selling. I imagine it would be cheaper.

Since you're blowing so much money on a small home fileserver go for an i-series CPU

Make sure it doesnt all break and you send it to eBuyer and make a huge thread about that.

    Looks good so far though.

Why so much hard drive capacity? 8TB? come on.

But if you got the money, and have the knowledge, why not do it? fair play to you, and good luck.

EDIT: Just added it up... £1500 on a home server? you have to be kidding... that money could be spend on other, better stuff... :S

Personally I would have built a £1500 gaming rig, then move my old rig over to be a server with a RAID card and a **** load of HDDs to serve video and music through file shares and UPNP to my PS3/360/Home and then to Fold@Home while serving general files. Probably running Ubuntu server 9.04 with MT-DAAPd and Samba or Win 2k3/XP.

Maybe then install some kind of network firewall and a proxy like Squid+Dansguardian with ClamAV.

Thanks! I do know eBuyer respect and value me as knowing what the hell I'm on about so returns take the good part of 3 days to complete in full. They even send city link out to my house to come get it :3

Raid array brah. Raid 5 or 6, not decided yet. Probably 5.

That's actually a brilliant idea sort of, with a slight mutation that could work. Gonna go look at OcUK and eBuyer, then make a thread. Hi pyroka i am loopop from habbah hotil.

Jeez, I have a hard time filling up my 500GB hard drive, and that has time machine. Can you really use 8TB?

Also your signature, sort of off topic, but did you write a script to grab your latest tweet and modify your Habbox profile page and set it up with CRON? I was going to make a latest tweet thing with the GD library in PHP but then I saw yours.
I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.
