Default Netflix says it will do more to stop customers from bypassing country restrictions

Netflix just announced it'll be taking new steps to stop customers from streaming content that's only available outside their own country. "In coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are," David Fullagar, Netflix's VP of content delivery architecture, wrote in a blog post. "We are confident this change won’t impact members not using proxies." The practice of using VPNs, proxies, and unblocking tools to get around viewing restrictions has become fairly popular among technical users and opens up access to content that's not be available for streaming in your own region.

Not sure how effective this will be or how they are going to do it but here is probably going to be ways around it.

This happened last year around this time too, they'll ban a few places but new VPNs will pop up and they'll try to beat them down but they won't.

Netflix are fighting the entertainment industry's hopeless battle, and I don't think it's because they necessarily want to, but because they have to. So I'll still stay subscribed, but I won't hold my breath on them banning all VPNs... just not possible.

The one that happened last year at a similar time of this announcement didn't actually come from Netflix and was demmed incorrect. This time it's coming from Netflix directly.

I can't see them being able to stop it completely, they can block different technologies and servers however there will always be new options.

If they wanted to ensure that people stuck to their regional selections why don't they have separate US UK Aus account types etc would that not be much easier

Doubt they will be able to stop it entirely considering peer-to-peer VPNs
